2016 MIFGS Boutique Gardens Competition - Bronze Medal
2016 was the first year InStyle Gardens had submitted our own design to be a part of the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS), entering into the Boutique Gardens competition.
This competition is sponsored by Landscaping Victoria and Warners Nursery, and is open to any individual or business who are a member of any of the state based landscaping associations (such as Landscaping VIctoria), a member of The Australian Institute of Landscape Designers and Managers (AILDM), Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) or students in the final year of studying landscape design or architecture.
Entrants submit a design, which are then shortlisted to five, which are built for the garden show to then be judged, and Instyle Gardens was one of the five finalists, eventually coming away with third place!
It was an amazing experience and certainly a lot different to building a students garden such as previous years.
2012 MIFGS Student Design Competition - Gold Medal
InStyle Gardens were invited to attend the 2012 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show to construct another of the Student Gardens for the Student Design Competition, following our efforts the previous year where the garden we built was awarded a Bronze Medal.
The standard of designs submitted for the competition were arguably of a higher standard than the previous year, and InStyle Gardens were teamed up with Geelong designer Ross Uebergang. The other designers were from Melbourne and Sydney.
Judging was very close, however the garden built by InStyle Gardens was judged to be the best and awarded the Gold Medal. The Student Gardens weren't eligible to enter the Show Garden category this year, meaning there was only one Medal up for grabs for us.
It was without question a career highlight for everyone involved and it sowed the seed for us to design and build our own Show Garden in the future!
2011 MIFGS Show Garden - Bronze Medal
In 2011 as a member of Landscaping Victoria, InStyle Gardens were asked to construct one of the four student designers gardens who were finalists in the Student Design Competition at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show (MIFGS).
InStyle Gardens were teamed up with student designer Kristine Galea and while they didn't win the Student Design competition, they were awarded a Bronze Medal in the overall Show Garden category.
MIFGS is the biggest show of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and the 5th biggest in the world. There were three other companies building at the Garden Show who had previously won Gold at the Chelsea Flower Show in England. MIFGS 2011 was a high quality event with high quality contractors and it was a big achievement for InStyle Gardens to come away with a Bronze.
2010 Gordon Tafe 3rd Year Apprentice of the Year
In March 2010, one of InStyle Gardens apprentices received the award for 3rd Year Landscaping Apprentice of the Year by his school, the Gordon Institute of Tafe.
The Gordon is a fantastic place to learn about landscaping and they're generous in their support of local landscaping businesses and staff, as this award shows.
2010 Victorian Landscape Awards - Apprentice of the Year
In November 2010, the Victorian Landscape awards were held featuring the best of the best landscaping companies throughout the state. All members of Landscaping Victoria were eligible to enter the awards and InStyle Gardens were entered into one category, Apprentice of the Year.
One of our apprentices came in third place in the category during his 3rd year as an apprentice. The judges selected the finalists after reading through submissions completed by the apprentices employers and teachers and after interviewing the apprentices themselves.
This was the first award for the InStyle Gardens team and set a high standard for all future apprentices and employees of InStyle Gardens.
